Join us for our Pride Beach Party, with a full bar, market stalls, food trucks, community stalls, kids circus workshops, lots of DJs, Drag Shows - and the first ever crowning of Miss Gold Coast Pride Pageant open to all Drag Queens, and Drag Kings!
Everyone is welcome.
We're located on the grassed area in front of beautiful Kirra beach with plenty of room to put down your picnic blanket. We have access to the beach (but be aware it's a non-patrolled area and definitely no alcohol outside the bar enclosure!)
Entry is by gold coin donation (though of course you're welcome to give more, if you want!). You are welcome to come early and watch the Skydiving on the beach as we do a group LGBTIQ marriage proposal.
This event is wheelchair accessible.
The Miss Gold Coast Drag Pageant will be Auslan-interpreted.
DONT MISS OUR SPECIAL GUEST PERFORMER!
Sofia Isella,16-year-old singer/songwriter/violinist was born in Beverly Hills, California and released her first EP I’M NOT YOURS on all platforms in November 2020.
She’s been fighting with Suzuki teachers since age three, a classically trained violinist, also into photography, and alternative music.
Sofia Isella draws her inspiration from Phantogram, Amy Winehouse, Marian Hill, Lana del Rey, Queen, Alessia Cara and Melanie Martinez.
“I’m experiencing both crazy homesickness for Los Angeles and my friends and mad love for Oz, so both those elements are coming out in the music I’m writing now. I love blending my voice and the wildness I can free from my violin.”
She is a multi-instrumentalist: piano, guitar as well as violin. She produces on Logic Pro.
She is currently making her home on the beautiful Gold Coast of Australia, at work on creating her second EP.
Sofia Isella is known for her big ass earrings.
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
The Pride Beach Party is the crowning event of the 2021 Pride Week Gold Coast, the first Pride Festival in the history of the Gold Coast, and a focal point for the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Northern Rivers LGBTIQA+ and broader community. The 2021 Pride Festival is a free, inclusive and safe event that aims to support changing community, social, environmental and economic challenges we face on the Gold Coast. We're expecting at least 500 people estimated to attend this inaugural Gold Coast Pride Festival!
WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN?
Kicking off proceedings will be a romantic skydive activity, part of the partnership with Gold Coast Skydive, who are providing discounted skydiving services and support for our Festival. LGBTIQA+ people will be skydiving and landing on the beach where their partner will be waiting. Once landed, the partner will propose and then they make their way up to the festival area. Other members of the LGBTIQA+ community will also skydive, raising the profile of gender-diverse people on the Gold Coast with an exhilarating demonstration of the Festival theme of “blue sky thinking”. This will be a major media event that highlights the beauty, inclusiveness and liveability of the unique place that is the Gold Coast.
Launching at 11am, the Festival will feature market stalls, food trucks, a bar area, community services stalls and DJs on the main stage. The DJs will be spinning a curated selection of contemporary dance anthems and “blasts from the past” with a focus on family-friendly disco hits from the 1970s and 1980s.
There will be roving circus performers, a free jumping castle and activities for the kids. Gender-questioning, gender-diverse and transgender teens will be supported with a designated space featuring bean bags, decorations and soft drinks.
MISS GOLD COAST PRIDE
The highlight of the day will be the first Miss Gold Coast competition, a beauty pageant featuring professional drag queens and transgender people, who will compete across three categories (gown, beach and social) for the title. Judging the Drag Queen Beauty pageant will be legendary drag queen Trixie Onassis, who in 2018 was inducted into the Queensland Drag Hall of Fame. Prizes donated from our sponsors include a stay for two in a Port Douglas resort, a tiara, styled wigs and make-up kits. The Drag Queen runway walks will be interspersed with drag queen performances by the glamorous host and MC, Miss Carmen Taykett and supported by leading Gold Coast drag queens Cookie Cartell and Roxy Harte.
The Gold Coast's first ever Pride Festival will cultivate a safe, festive and culturally sensitive atmosphere for the Gold Coast LGBTIQA+ community to feel included in, and to enjoy.
